CMANA, Carnatic Music Association of North America, established in 1976, is a Tax-Exempt, Non-profit organization (TAX ID 11-2654179) registered in New York and New Jersey, with a local chapter at Atlanta, GA. The objective of CMANA is to promote learning and understanding of Carnatic music and related fine arts in North America. Carnatic music is one of the two systems of indian classical music, practiced mainly in South India and quite distinct from its northern counterpart, the Hindustani music

The Association conducts two tours (in Spring and Fall) each year of leading Carnatic musicians from India. The association also promotes learning and advancement of Carnatic music by organizing programs such as the Great Composers Day and Sangeetha Mela (Music Marathon) which provide performing opportunities for the local young and adult musicians. The Association has helped to raise funds for many worthy Carnatic music related causes and has established a Prize at the Music Academy, Madras for promoting young talent.

CMANA serves America by bringing yet another cultural treasure from a distant land to enrich its multi-cultural environment; serves the Indian-Americans by providing a cultural bridge to India. The association is supported by membership dues , donations and matching grants from donors' employers. It also receives modest grants from some Government agencies such as the Queens Council of the Arts, NY , Union County, NJ and the Bergen County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, NJ.

CMANA is managed by a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and a Board of Trustees who are all elected for a three year term. A Financial Oversight Committee elected by the General Body maintains oversight on the finances of the CMANA. Financial Statements, a report on activities held, and a plan for the following year are presented at each Annual General Body Meeting and also mailed to all members of record.
